John has had a working lifetime in engineering at a very high level. On retirement, and freed from the constraints of a profession that requires order and precision. He decided to try and explore the art and craft of wood turning and artistic metalwork. In an attempt to find his “artistic side”. He equipped himself and went in hot pursuit of form, concentrating on shape and surface. Often without concern for function, or even the illusion of function. His work is exciting and of the highest standard. He is now exhibiting in some premier galleries in the UK. and France.

Every piece on this site is unique and is the best that John can make it. He allows no compromise on quality. Many hours are spent creating the pieces that you can see here. You can also see Johns work in the gallery and at various galleries in the north of England.
Exploring technique
John blends traditional techniques with modern innovations. At times he uses lasers and 3D printers, to add to the projects he attempts. John works in metal as well as wood. Modern materials are used to enhance his work if necessary. He always lets the beauty of the wood shine through and incorporates other materials if it adds to the piece.
John likes to involve other crafts people when he can. He is working with the respected and innovative potter Nadine Blakemore to make what they describe as fusion pieces of work. He is also working with the renowned sculptural artist Marcus Levine and Glass artist, Bronwyn Jarvis.
